Selling online courses in marketplaces such as Udemy or Skillshare

Both Udemy and Skillshare take a percentage of your earnings, but the benefit is the expansive audience the companies have on their platforms. You may gain extra visibility through initially publishing your course on one of these platforms rather than only on your own platform.

Become an Instructor on Udemy

Udemy makes money from selling online courses, which means they actively promote any courses for you that you share on the platform.

There is a fee associated with publishing your course on Udemy, and the average one-time price per course is $19 to $199.

Instructors receive 37% of the revenue for any Udemy sales where no instructor coupon or course referral link was used -- you can also make commissions on others' courses as an affiliate.

Additionally, courses on Udemy must have at least 30 minutes of video content and at least five learning modules.

You’ll get paid a royalty monthly from Udemy through PayPal or Payoneer for any purchases students made on your course.

Teach Online on Skillshare

There are no applications or approvals to share your course on the platform. You can work at your own pace to publish your class on Skillshare. How to become a Skillshare teacher.

Teachers on Skillshare earn royalty payments and premium referrals. Skillshare allocates 30% of membership revenue each month toward a royalty pool for teachers. The royalty pool is then distributed amongst teachers based on their percentage of the total minutes-watched in their classes. Skillshare pays between $0.05 to $0.10 per minute watched. For example, if you are a teacher and your students watched 5,000 minutes of your class in the first month, then you would earn between $250 to $500.

You can read the Teacher Handbook for more details on how you get paid.
